Metabolomics - Lipidomics

Proteomics covers the proteins present at a certain state in a cell, an organ, a tissue or an organism.
Proteins are the workhorses in a cell, they often produce metabolites, smaller molecules with many functions, the metabolites. They work as messengers, transferring signals through a cell or a body, stabilising structures in the body or made as building blocks for larger molecules. Disturbance in DNA, RNA or protein level results in changes in these metabolites. Many of these
metabolites are directly related to diseases, like inflammation or pain and many more.
A comprehensive analysis, the Metabolomics, is not easy, several different methods have to be used, like
LC-MS or gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry, GC-MS.
One group of the metabolites came into focus only in the last years, the lipids, the field of
Lipidomics. Lipids turned out to be involved in many diseases, studying them will lead to new understanding of the biology.

Many of the human Metabolomics studies require clinical samples and a well designed
study plan.
