Collaborators and/or contractors are important for almost every project.
Today, almost nobody can run a project alone, too much different expertise is required to look at all aspects. This requires a network of collaborators and contractors.
A collaborator will work with you on a scientific basis, results, publications and grants are shared, the scientific output belongs to all of the partners.
Contractors are paid for their expertise and you will not share the results with them and will not show up as co-author on publications.
